Award Ceremony of the UNESCO-Madanjeet Singh Prize for the Promotion of Tolerance and Non-Violence.

The award ceremony took place at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris on 16 November 2016 at 6.30 pm on the occasion of the International Day for Tolerance.

The UNESCO-Madanjeet Singh Prize for the Promotion of Tolerance and Non-Violence rewards significant activities in the scientific, artistic, cultural or communication field aimed at promoting a spirit of tolerance and non-violence.

The Prize was established in 1995 to mark the United Nations Year for Tolerance and the 125th anniversary of the birth of Mahatma Gandhi. The creation of the Prize was inspired by the ideals of the UNESCO Constitution which proclaims that "peace must be established on the basis of the intellectual and moral solidarity of mankind".

In recognition of a lifelong commitment to community harmony and peace, the award is named after its benefactor Madanjeet Singh, UNESCO's Goodwill Ambassador, Indian artist, writer and diplomat . During the ceremony, a video dedicated to the memory of Madanjeet Singh, will be screened. And it was Ideogram Design who produced this 4-minute video about the life of Unesco Ambassador Madanjeet Singh.
